When Puccini wrote his biggest hits he probably wasn't inspired by the one and only...

A woman one day realises that her husband, a composer, has cheated on her so many times, in so many ways, that she hardly knows where to start, and you can sense that this could end badly, very badly.

The British opera company Helios Collective has created the piece Il Letto (The Bed) for two sopranos and a pianist. It tells the story of famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini and his music – among it La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Le Villi and Turandot – through the eyes of his wife, Elvira Bonturi. Elvira suffered from raging jealousy, which in the end led to the suicide of the young maid of the Puccini house.
