As tradition dictates, the Copenhagen Opera Festival honors a young artist who has made a particularly notable impression – this year all the way from a village by the Little Belt. Baritone Asmus Hanke Frederiksen receives the award as Opera Talent of the Year 2025.
The profession chose him, not the other way around. This is how Asmus Hanke Frederiksen describes his path into the opera world. With opera-singing parents, Asmus had an ambivalent relationship with singing during his childhood and dreamed more of an electric guitar than a magic flute. However, at the age of 16, he turned his attention to singing when he started working as a church singer, and since then, MGK in Frederiksberg and the Syddansk Musikkonservatorium have fueled his ambition to make singing his career.
Asmus Hanke Frederiksen impresses with a warm tone and a wide range, from the lyrical to the dramatic. He is already a sought-after soloist, having performed with several high-profile orchestras, as well as in roles such as Schaunard in 'La Bohème' and Masetto in 'Don Giovanni' at the Chamber Opera in Helsingør. In 2024, he won the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize.
Experience Opera Talent of the Year on August 24th at Christians Church, where Asmus Hanke Frederiksen will present a personally curated concert featuring works by Nielsen, as well as Mozart and Ravel, accompanied by pianist Berit Juul Rasmussen.
The Opera Talent of the Year award is supported by the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation.
