The opera festival invites Copenhageners to a free 10-year anniversary celebration in the Meatpacking District. The main course will be a magical opera – performed by a world renowned international orchestra.
When CPH Opera Festival kicks off on Thursday, August 1, we mark our first 10 years of opera for all.
And it will surely be celebrated throughout, because the Opera Festival is bringing the Slovak master conductor Oliver von Dohnányi, a strong selection of superb singers, a large-scale chamber choir, and no less than the sublime symphony orchestra to Flæsketorvet in Vesterbro to present Dvořáks opera Rusalka. Rusalka is also known as The Little Mermaid Opera, because its story borrows from H.C. Andersen's wonderful fairytale.
Radio host Mathias Hammer presents, actor Thure Lindhardt ties the story together, and just like last year’s opening event, the outdoor opera and orchestra concert in the Meatpacking District is free to attend. So do yourself a favor: show up in good time. Folding chairs can be rented and refreshments can be purchased on site.
Welcome to the beautifully melodic and popular festival in the open-air!
