With its brooding and sinister atmosphere, Il Tabarro tells the story of the owner of a Parisian river barge, who suspects his younger wife of being unfaithful with one of the workers.

It is a real thriller about jealousy, jilted love and broken dreams. Il Tabarro means “the cloak” and refers to the main male character's voluminous costume: A cloak which protects your loved ones under the thick fabric – but which may also hide great secrets.

The British director Daisy Evans and theatre designer Kat Heath have created an imaginative production for the Festival Stage which absorbs Den Røde Plads into a flooded future presentation, with neon signs and houses under water. On the stage, you will find Ulrich Stærk on the piano, Yngvild Ruud on the accordion and 8 resident and international soloists.

With Il Tabarro, Copenhagen Opera Festival continues its production of Puccini’s three one-act operas. Last year, you might have seen Gianni Schicchi in a site specific production at Børsen, and next year Suor Angelica awaits us.
