In August the Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason, Guest Artist in Residence at Copenhagen Opera Festival, will hold a masterclass for emerging composers in composition for voice and piano.

Where and what

The masterclass will take place over two sessions: the first a private session, on the 11th of August and the second, a public session, where the audience can observe the working process, on the 13th of August, both in Copenhagen. The participants will receive a text/poem at the beginning of July to set to music for voice with piano accompaniment, running time of 3 minutes maximum, and then the composition will be presented and worked on at the two sessions.

Who can apply 

Any composer currently studying at a conservatory or similar and young/emerging composers, no more than five years out of education. There is not a requirement to have written for voice before, but an interest and wish to do so is welcomed.

How to apply

Send in a CV and a short personal statement about why you want to participate in the masterclass, as well as two compositions. The compositions should include audio (if possible) and scores, and whilst they do not have to be compositions for voice it is encouraged that at least one of them is.

Chosen participants will receive answers and the libretto within 12 days.

The composition needs to be created and available to the singer and pianist that will participate in the masterclass by the 1st of August.
