True to tradition, Copenhagen Opera Festival spotlights a classical singing talent. The Opera Talent of the Year Award in 2023 goes to countertenor Steffen Jespersen, who has established himself as an up-and-coming voice within Renaissance and Baroque music since studying at the Opera Academy, among other places.
Steffen Jespersen began his career, which already has several highlights, at the age of nine in the Roskilde Cathedral Boys' Choir. In 2021 he was accepted into the Opera's Young Artist Programme, and in the same year he received the prestigious Hans Voigts Mindelegat, and in 2022 Jespersen was in charge of the performance of the critically acclaimed stage concert 'II Senesinos Fodspor' on the Royal Theatre's Old Stage. Jespersen is also a member of the satire group MAGT, which performs throughout the country.
At last year's opera festival, he was impressive in the brand new work 'Lisbon Floor', where, according to the critics, he "shone at the oxygen-deprived heights".

This year you can experience Steffen Jespersen in a solo concert in Christians Kirke and in one of the opera festival's major productions this season, Brothers.
