Expect an experience characterised by contrast when this sensuous performance work enters into dialogue with Thorvaldsens Museum. 'Passages' explores transience and retention through the museum, creating a quivering encounter between the power of opera and the voice, expressive sound and light design and contemporary dance.
'Passages' is an atmospheric staging of the fleeting encounter between life and death, past and present, reality and imagination. The work premiered in Antwerp in the spring of 2024 and changes with each performance as it moves from museum to museum. When 'Passages' comes to the Copenhagen Opera Festival, Thorvaldsens Museum become co-creators of an inspiring and different opera experience. The opera is staged by director Aïda Gabriëls and playwright Tessa Vannieuwenhuyze, who make up the Belgian performance art duo Oester.
You are invited to move through the museum, where the historic corridors and halls are transformed into different scenes simultaneously enveloped in dramatic and mesmerising sound, light and movement. Electronic music, modern dance and visual art contrast with the voice of mezzo-soprano Mireille Capelle, a percussionist and a violinist, creating a mesmerising, expressive no-man's land.
New local performers join each production. At Thorvaldsens Museum, you can experience musician Casper Clausen, who has gained great recognition as the frontman for the alternative pop groups Efterklang and Liima and as a solo artist. He has previously crossed creative paths with director Aïda Gabriëls in connection with the performance piece 'The Wild Stage'. 'Passages' is constantly evolving – a tribute to the mutability of art and life.
