Wagner's life's work is both admired and infamous among classical musicians and opera lovers. The German composer worked for 26 years on the Ring Cycle, which involves no less than 15 hours of music and therefore usually takes four full evenings to perform. During this year's festival, you can experience the opera about the magical Rheingold and the bloody power struggles of three generations in a completely new version.
‘The Ring in One Evening’ will take the audience through the epic tales of Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in three hours, without compromising the complexity of the plot and the musical context. The Ring Cycle has been shortened by the renowned Wagner tenor Stig Fogh Andersen in collaboration with conductor Leif Greibe, who also will be conducting. Fogh Andersen will sing the part of Mime joined by a team of Danish Wagner singers, including baritone Jens Søndergaard in the roles of Wotan and Gunther, and seven talented musicians from the Royal Danish Orchestra. The opera had its premiere in March 2023 in Helsingør, and will be performed during the Copenhagen Opera Festival at Aveny-T in Frederiksberg.
