Mathias Reumert Group & soloists
Experience world-class percussion music when the Mathias Reumert Group takes the Festival Stage with mezzo-soprano Astrid Lychou and marimba soloist Hsiao-Tung Yuan. Brand new compositions are performed alongside works by György Ligeti and the rising female composer from Taiwan, Chiung-Ying Chang.
Harmonicas, flutes, sirens and truckloads of percussion set the scene for a dazzling mezzo-soprano in György Ligeti's surrealist masterpiece 'Síppal, dobbal, nádihegedűvel', which is based on texts by the composer's compatriot, poet Sándor Weöres. The exceptionally talented Astrid Lychou performs the expressive and breathtakingly difficult solo voice, making her debut at the festival.
Mesmerizing rhythms and Eastern symbolism come together in Chiung-Ying Chang's ritual performance piece, 'Solar Myth', in which masked taiko drummers call for an attack against a feminine superpower. It's powerful, poetic and authentic music theatre, delivered with virtuosity by Reumert & co.
Welcome to a night of percussion, surrealism and solar myths!
